Thank you for the amazing experience I had at Southeast Juniors. The camp itself was extremely difficult but I feel as if all the hard work.. paid off at Club Nationals. My rowing has changed dramatically over the last three weeks; my technique and power has improved immensely... making me not only a stronger rower but a stronger person. I truly appreciate all of the time and effort you put into this camp and I wanted to let you know the affect it has had on my rowing. Also, your wife did an amazing job on the food at nationals and I know all of the rowers loved it.

I just wanted to say thank you again for having the SEJ camp. It was great both years. I was just reminded to write when I got the new issue of US Rowing and saw our boats mentioned for Nationals. It was such an amazing feeling so see how our boats finished so well this year. I am still in awe about the fact that I have a medal from a National Competition. Thank you for making that possible

Just wanted to thank you for the awesome time I had this past summer at Southeast Junior Dev. Camp. I just wanted to tell you that I pulled a 7:23.4 today, a PR (7:33.7)

The morning I got home from the SE Dev. camp, I pulled a 2K to see how much I had improved. It turns out I dropped almost ten seconds - finally breaking 7:30! I notified a bunch of college coaches about this and I got very highly recruited. I'm going to row at UCLA next year, and I know that I would probably be going to some really obscure college if SE Dev. camp didn't help me get so much faster. Thanks again,

Thank you for your interest in the Southeast Junior Rowing Camp!

The Southeast Junior Rowing Camp (SEJ) is a pre-elite level regional development camp for athletes who are either just under the requirements of the USRA Jr. Development system, athletes that are looking for the next level of rowing conditioning and development, or athletes that might have aged out of the development system.

SEJ is organized by regional youth coaches wanting to offer an unforgettable three-week intense summer growth experience for dedicated rowers and coxswains interested in training and competing at an elite or college level.

SEJ is centered on youth rowers and coxswains between the ages of 14 and 18 and who meet the selection criteria and should have over 1 year rowing experience. SEJ was developed to enhance athletes from the Southeast Region, however if space is available applications will be accepted from outside the region and are encouraged to attend. Over the past three years 50% of the campers were from outside the southeast region.

While SEJ is specifically designed to be a challenging and rewarding experience to harness the serious athlete's rowing potential and to foster a lifetime love for the sport of rowing, The camp focuses on two main areas blade work and power application. This is accomplished using a program of regional core coaches augmented by a series of top level coaches that spend four days visiting and instructing the campers on various rowing skills. The camp takes into count that each of the athletes home programs uses different technique. SEJ does not try to change your stroke to a unique style, instead opting for a vanilla style that all athletes can learn quickly to compete with in two weeks.

SEJ campers learn how to promote themselves and inform college coaches of the athletes potential. SEJ will give you face time with over 60 colleges looking to recruit. SEJ campers that are eligible will attend the 2008 College fair. Prior to attending the college fair you will receive classes on how to communicate and develop a rowing resume to help you in recruiting . A majority of the eligible the high school athletes that have participated in SEJ have signed with colleges that they meet while part of  the Southeast Juniors. This is an accomplishment that we are very proud of.

Athletes will be immersed into a rigorous, intensive and competitive two weeks training program under the guidance of the region's top-level coaches. (Please see the Southeast Junior roster for list of this year’s staff.) Athletes will experience up to four training and technical sessions on the water daily. Camp athletes will learn the techniques used by Olympians, professional athletes, and other highly successful coaches involving scull and sweep rowing, weight training and core strength techniques as well as race strategy on the ergometer and on the water.

Seminar sessions will be conducted as the training schedule allows include many guest speakers and address such topics as the importance of stretching, sports medicine, proper nutrition required for successful training, mental training, and the college recruitment process. Just be prepared to be surprised at how much you can accomplish!

All athletes will be video taped; their individual performance evaluated by a panel of camp coaches, and given guidance on what to work on, which will be very helpful for athletes looking to row at the next level. After which camp culminates with the entire SEJ traveling to compete in Camden, New Jersey as part of the USRowing National Club Championship Regatta.

When the athletes are not training, they will be living on the Baylor School campus and have opportunities to spend time in and around the "Scenic City" of Chattanooga.

When making travel plans to travel to Chattanooga. The SEJ Coaching staff recommends that you schedule flights to Nashville, TN or Atlanta, GA. We are working out an agreement with Groom Transportation to offer a shuttle service from these major airports to the Baylor Campus in Chattanooga, TN. The ride is about 90 minutes but will save you some transportation cost. Here is a copy of the Groom Transportation schedule. This year we are asking campers to fly in on Sunday the 29th of June after 12:00 PM. Since SEJ is transported by but to Camden, NJ it will take us two days to make the trip. Once racing and the college fair concludes on Sunday. The camp will begin to release athletes to parents and make plans to return home. SEJ request that plan to leave out from Philadelphia in the afternoon of the July 20th. Please make your travel plans known so we can get campers to either one of the many transportation hubs in Philadelphia. The bus will begin the trip back to Chattanooga and arrive Monday afternoon of July 21st. Campers then can catch shuttles from the Baylor Campus to from Atlanta, Nashville, and other local cities.

The experience of SEJ is more than just rowing. SEJ wants to be the camp where you make friends that you can share your experience with and see at regatta around the country. The camp travels to Chattanooga for movies and other camp outings around the city. This years schedule iincludes a day at a Six Flags Great Adventure Amusement Park in Jackson, NJ. Six Flags Great Adventure is the largest theme park in the country with Kingda Ka, the world's tallest, fastest steel roller coaster. Please check the camp schedule and packing list to see if activities have an additional charge to attend.

Completion of application does not guarantee an invitation. The Southeast Junior Rowing Camp has set very modest time standards for admission. The coaches feel that this ensures that the athletes that apply for our camp are serious about improving their rowing ability. In the event the applicant meets the selection criteria to be considered for the camp. You will receive e-mail verification from the staff notifying to whether or not you have been invited to participate in the camp by the May 1st deadline. If you are close to the selection criteria, apply and if their is space available you may be invited after the deadline. Remember to keep updating the camp coaches of your progress. Once you have been accepted to the camp, you will need to download and submit the camp information, medical documents, waiver (from the camp menu on the right side of the page) and non-refundable deposit. The additional forms need to be completed prior to your arrival in Chattanooga. Your account will need to be paid in full before you can sign-in your camper.

At first look the Southeast Junior Rowing Camp seems expensive. However if you really look at what the cost does cover you will find that the camp is a real value for the experience and performance gained by your athlete. All applicants must pay deposit of $750.00 (non refundable) once they are accepted to the Southeast Juniors Rowing Camp. The deposit should be received 10 days after receiving the Southeast Development Camp acceptance notice.

The fees include:

* Lodging and meals for duration of the camp.

* Uniform and Gear

* Sightseeing/Entertainment around Chattanooga and at Nationals

* Travel and regatta fees for the US Nationals and other regattas

Campers are encouraged to bring money for souvenirs and snacks, as campers will have some opportunities to shop and go into town.
